My Semester Plan

Over the summer, I have been creating a body of work which further explores my three experiments (see portfolio.) My first goal is to bisque those pieces and cold surface them to finish out what I have been exploring with abstracted bodies. I Chose to use baby blue, baby pink, and my personal favorite lavender due to my interested in the gendering of color. I attempted to make a spectrum of color from baby blue to lavender to baby pink placing body parts at every point of the spectrum in an attempt to de-gender "binary" sex characteristics. I really enjoyed the process of these pieces, where i would throw cylindrical objects on the wheel to then hand-build the body parts. Fun to do a series and really see yourself improve looking at the way I can better sculpt a mouth over time. I am excited to finish these pieces but do not feel the need to further explore these (for now.) That being said I wish I could rearrange and rebuild these, some of them I love the body but hate the mouth attached, others I love the genitalia but hate the body.

My second goal is to make a mold of a Cetaphil bottle (almost completed must add drainage hole and allow to dry). I want to create a few pieces using the slip cast object, decorating the surface with the Cetaphil font labeling them as Cum. I am interested in the use of Cetaphil as fake cum in pornography, what does this say about a household item being used to fulfill a sexual fantasy? What is a reality in porn? How does it feel to wash ones face with a liquid that is so similar to cum? I mostly want to have fun and play with this idea, not taking my art so seriously.

My first piece of the semester will yet again be inspired by my most recent breakup (see I Wish You Still Fit Inside Me within my portfolio.) For this piece I want to further explore body parts that are disconnected from the main body. I want to hand build this piece and then create two molds, I am interested in seeing two of these pieces interacting together in the same space. What does it mean if the hand on top is gripping harder? What is the hand on top is gripping loosely? How does one escape a codependent relationship? Why do we stay in relationships where we feel "chained"? Chains will be actual metal chain not ceramic. Not sure on color choice for the piece at this moment, might be interesting to try something new and high fire this.
