Artist Bio
Drew Scanlon was born November 3rd, 1997 in Orlando, Florida. In the summer of 2018, they took a ceramics class to fulfill a requirement for their art history degree. Over the course of that three week class, they fell in love with the medium. At UF, they took more ceramics classes, such as throwing, figure modeling, ceramic design, and advanced ceramics and earned their Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Ceramics Certificate from the University of Florida in 2020.
After graduating, they spent a 2020-2021 as a Post-Baccalaureate student at West Virginia University where they took classes on glaze calculation, clay 3D printing, mold making, and figure modeling. They spent two years studying at Indiana University Southeast as a Post-Baccalaureate. Their first year they worked as the ceramic studio assistant, where they complete tasks around the studio such as firing student work, cleaning and organizing, as well as mixing glazes, slip, and clay. Spring 2023 they took a class at the University of Louisville as a Post-Baccalaureate student in Sculpture.
Currently, they are in their first year of the MFA program in Studio Art at the University of Louisville. They also work at as the Cinema Volunteer Coordinator & Guest Experience Associate at the Speed Art Museum in Louisville, Kentucky. Additionally, they are the Ceramics Assistant at the University of Louisville and the Curatorial Intern at KMAC.
