I made another piece ?! This has got to be the fastest I have ever made something. I started throwing the "potter nightmares" on monday and put the piece to rest on the shelves friday night ! My child is larger than its siblings, about 2 feet. Connected with snap hook connecters. I wanted the vibe to be one becoming two, growing apart but wanting to stay close, but being physically unable. I was chatting with a friend and she said "the codependency is uneasy." lol oh my god thats what ALL of these pieces have been about. (shout to my old therapist, she constantly told me to read the book codependent no more.) I tell Carly, they say something along the lines of "oh you didn't know?" It's so clear now. I see the physical pain of the manifestation of separation. The feeling of two becoming one becoming two again. The longing and aching for someone. The fear of being alone. It makes me feel more at peace... Kinda funny that I still make work about my past relationship, but healing takes a lot of time. To lighten the mood lets chat about surfacing haha ! I want to cover these in clear milky glaze, wipe away where I can, letting the deeper areas pool with glaze. I want, what I call, the orifices to have the sweet sweet gloopy glaze coming out of them I want the vibe to be that these orifices are communicating with each other. I see the metal parts being washed with red iron oxide and manganese to darken them and juxtapose the surface of the bodies. Now its time to actually begin the glazing process, the test kiln has been broken but I think maybe I need to suck it up and use a big kiln to start this process, I want to finish all these pieces by early April. Once I finish the first one in the series, the others will get done quickly !

With all the excitement of empty bowls and slip casting I started making more titty planters! these pretty much sold out at the last sale, so I made waaaay more this time. I did two of each color scheme. Sadly I put one lavender one in the cone 10 because I am a bit silly and forgot the purple burns out at that temperature but luckily placed the other one plus two pinks in a cone 6 ! Hoping the people buy these babies because i sure as hell dont want 8 titty planters sitting around in a box. After all the slip casting and glazing, I remembered that while the world does revolve around money, I make art every now and again. So i checked out my damp boxes and pulled out some babes. I had thrown 10 (what I am calling) "potter nightmares" and put them together, making 5 little guys..... I took my five little guys and moved them around a bunch until they were in the "right" position. My original idea was to create a pentagram with the chain but then I was thinking I can make a rug with a pentagram to place them on, since they are floor pieces, and I came up with the idea of having an
O-ring connect them all. This will make it easier for me to move them around and create the right tension with the chain. I am very happy with this piece I think it put me on the right track for the direction of this series and I am slowly but surely getting larger / taking up more space with each new baby. This week was all about work work work baby, I focused on making a bunch of bowls for the empty bowls event. Buuuut since i made a fresh delicious batch of Tim Mather's casting slip. I also started making more of my Cetaphil/Cum bottles. I decided to make the cum design in photoshop whereas for the original piece i did it by hand (shout out to my adobe photoshop teacher from 10th grade she sat next to me when i got photoshop certified and told me all the answers she was great also for some reason she sold snacks in that class how was that legal?) Anyway I think ill hodge podge the printed out logo onto the piece i fired it to cone 10 with the mackenzie white glaze, get a color match and dip the pump, do some more nail polish for the cum of course !! I ended up making like 22 bowls? one suck to a patty (RIP), three didn't turn out well glaze-wise, with some pinholes, some crazing, some weird metal looking shit at the bottom of one?
If my math is correct I have four more, but i intricately carved them with designs and kinda want to sell them because capitalism baby !!!! So I will only be donating about 14 bowls to the charity event, but let's be real thats a great effort for a good cause. My favorite glazes ended up being the iron saturate and temples persimmon, the celadon is cute but doesn't pack the same punch ya know? |
